Abstract:

The electron transit time phenomenon through any circuit produces a phase difference between the input and output signals associated with that circuit. This phase difference is of particular importance whenever a circuit is to be used for precise range measurements such as is done in navigation. To make the TacComSat potentially useful for space navigation test or experiment, an accurate absolute phase difference measurement was made on the communication repeater subsystem prior to launch. Advanced RF phase measurement techniques and equipment made an overall CRS measurement possible in both SHF and UHF straight through operating modes. The test measurement technique is described, and results are given and interpreted. Reference to a related phenomenon, group delay, and an associated series of Solar Thermal Vacuum tests is also provided. Author
