This document is a study of the uses of photographic emulsions as phase objects in coherent optical systems. In it theory is formulated for determining the detailed properties of images of phase objects effects of bleaching of film are determined with respect to the use of film in signal processing systems a highly stable interferometer system is devised and used for generating phase objects and the theory of scattering by photographic grains is extended.
