Research was continued to investigate new and improved high temperature up to 8oodeg F resistant coatings capable of withstanding aerodynamic heating of high speed greater than Mach 3 aircraft and missile systems. Fluorinated ethylene propylene and polychlorotrifluoroethylene coatings have been satisfactorily applied by plasma spraying. Polytetrafluoroethylene and a coating-grade polyarylsulfone resin did not show adequate melt flow to allow film coalescence. A varnish coating of a benzoxazole-imide ordered copolymer has shown outstanding property retention during extended aging at 650deg F. Author, Modified-PL.
