Abstract:

Many systems, whose operations include the control of heavy loads, may have complex poles in their transfer functions, which result in noticeable oscillations in the states of the system. A plant under highly oscillatory conventional control, in which a compromise is sought between transient response and steady state error, usually produces an unacceptable response. In this case, performance specifications can be met only through some form of compensation. This study demonstrates the digital application of the posicast compensation technique to the lightly damped Mk 5 guided missile launcher. A detailed model of the Mk 5 plant is developed and the application is carried out via a digital computer simulation with representative results presented in the form of tables and curves. Author
