The report concerns the investigation of the use of a laser for experimentally determining the electron density distribution of an axially symmetric arc plasma. The two methods used were based on interference of light and bending of light rays caused by the refractive index gradient of the plasma. The report includes plasma refractivity theory and the theory, procedures and results of each method. The interference method yielded results electron density as a function of temperature that differed from theoretical calculations by zero to twenty per cent. Author
