The report describes a computer program which solves the problem of a dilatational wave propagating through cracked material. The cracks are transverse to the direction of propagation, and the material may be elastic or viscoelastic. The solutions to eight elastic and three viscoelastic problems are given. The work is considered to be a first step toward understanding the effects of joints on wave propagation through in situ rock and is directed toward the eventual prediction of free-field phenomena resulting from a nuclear detonation.
