The flow of moist air near the ground in mountains and coastal terrain is the primary objective of this study. It is assumed that the standard scale measurements of wind temperature and humidity are available for an area and that small scale measurements of precipitation with radar and clouds with satellite photographs are available. Also smoke and visual cloud observations can be expected to give local air motions to an astute observer. The study had three main parts during the first six months. 1 Study of air motion in and above the canopy. 2 Stationary flow patterns to be expected near large mountain ranges. 3 Partial development of a computer program capable of following time dependent, frictionally active moist flow around mountainous terrain.
