Abstract:

Defects of up-to-date machinery are most frequently due to material fatigue. The paper contains the authors recent test results, according to which ultrasonic signals, produced by reference to standards, were successfully applied to assessing the degree of fatigue cracking caused by repeated loads. Mathematical relationships were determined between the surface crack referred to by the defect signal, the crack propagation rate, and the increase in the amplitude. Author
