Abstract:
This report describes an investigation undertaken to determine the dependence of the matrix maximum shear-stress at the fiber-matrix interface. The photoelastic technique was used in all tests. Models for the two-dimensional photoelastic investigation were fabricated using Epon 815 epoxy as the matrix. Models for the three-dimensional photoelastic tests were made by molding Epon 815 around a 2mm diameter pyrex glass rod. In order to improve the scattering properties of the Epon matrix, 18 percent by weight of Carbonsil glass powder was added to the resin. Author, modified-PL.
