Work is continuing on the Phase II effort of the contract. Phase II is the design, fabrication, and test of a 300 C ambient brushless alternator using a silicon carbide rotating rectifier. This report covers the third three-month period of Phase II of the project. The technical efforts of the period were directed toward developing manufacturing processes and completing the tool drawings and manufacturing information for the shop. Anadur insulated nickel-clad silver wire was received from the supplier during the period. Work was accomplished to develop a method of Plasma spraying alumina onto Hiperco 27 punchings to 0.0024-inch thick. A minor design change was made in the generator shaft. Progress was made in improving the life of solid lubricated bearings at Westinghouse Research Development Center. Solid lubricated bearings will be used in the generator. Author
