Abstract:

The general problems confronting the structural analyst who is concerned with the lethality of an ABM are discussed. Emphasis is on short-time, impulsive loads generated as a result of ablator blow-off, when experienced by a two-layer, bonded cylindrical section. Analytical and graphical tools are presented for the estimate of material response, and its possible relationship to structural response. A number of qualitative conceptual suggestions are made relating to the phenomenology of the problem. A method of constructing an equivalent fully plastic cross section is offered, which can be used together with a CRASH X code, to predict the large deformation of a composite in unitary mode. Author
