Abstract:
The program involves the development of a permanent magnet focused, conduction cooled, distributed interaction klystron which oscillates at 93.75 GHz, produces pulses of 10 kW peak output power through the application of a relatively low control voltage, and operates for more than 500 hours. It is believed that this objective can be reached by incorporating a gridded electron gun in a tube design developed under a previous contract. A scaled-up model of the HOW-2 electron gun was gridded and the data were compared with those of the ungridded gun. A new gun was then designed based on the results of this comparison. The design of a higher perveance gun was also started, and collector cooling studies have been initiated. Author
