Abstract:
The test objective was to determine if the hot oil heater was suitable for issue to troops. Testing was satisfactorily conducted for a total of 135 hours of heating operations and the test item was towed by a 2-12-ton cargo truck for 500 miles over primary and secondary roads. Testing was conducted under field conditions on missions which typify normal operational use of the equipment by troops in the field. The test item was used to heat and circulate oil for two asphalt melters connected for parallel operation each capable of melting 750 gallons per hour of asphalt. The test item met all operational criteria and no failures were reported during testing. The maintenance ratio was 0.066 hours of active maintenance time per operating hour.
