The usefulness of high-expansion foam systems in Naval shore installations is evaluated on the basis of 1 a literature survey 2 evaluation of three representative foam systems 3 tests on one selected system to determine whether detriment to system performance results from combustion products if the foam generator is housed within the protected buildings and 4 a cost effectiveness comparison between qualified foam systems and water sprinkler systems. Based on the evaluation, recommendations are made relative to the use of high-expansion foam and alternative systems in Naval shore facilities. Author
