Abstract:
Static and dynamic load characteristics were obtained for both new and fatigued 34-inch diameter shock cord at 50, 75, and 100 percent elongation. These tests were conducted to calibrate shock cord displacement gages installed for the HEST V experiment. It was determined that the shock cord would fail when elongated beyond 105 percent and that the cord would be in a fatigued condition with minimal creep when subjected to 100 percent elongation for 12 days. It was also determined that the load transmitted by the shock cord when subjected to a shock pulse was related to the relative motion of the ends of the cord. Author
