Abstract:
The report discusses the investigation of the application of circuit techniques to a vortex accelerometer developed previous to this program. Data herein includes analytical and experimental results of the first phase of the program. An existing vortex accelerometer design was modified to include provisions for negative feedback. All critical parts of the previously developed accelerometer design were compatible with the new design. Detailed stability analysis of the feedback circuit was conducted using the root locus technique and the effect of transport delay on feedback stability and gain was studied. The experimental program included open-loop feedback tests to prove the application feasibility of feedback control to the accelerometer. A unique feature of the counterflow output probe, used with the vortex amplifier, gives an output pressure level in excess of both, control and supply inputs to the vortex amplifier. This unique feature allowed the use of direct feedback to control the gain of the vortex amplifier. A single-stage, vortex-valve-controlled, confined-jet amplifier was developed for use in compensation circuits. An experimental pressure gain of 30 was achieved through the use of a new receiver design.
