Abstract:
This report is concerned with the preparation of ferrocene polymers and curing agents. A variety of polymeric ferrocene derivatives are known 2,3,4 but most are high-melting, insoluble solids. After a literature review, the preparation of ferrocene polyethers appeared to be an attractive means of obtaining a liquid ferrocene polymer for evaluation as a propellant binder. Two routes to these types of compounds were feasible copolymerization of a ferrocene diepoxide with an aliphatic diol, and polycondensation of a bisalpha-hydroxyalkyl ferrocene with a diol. The diepoxides would also be evaluated as curing agents for carboxyterminated hydrocarbon binders. Author
