The report is divided into three areas of study that are designed to develop understanding of the magnitude and the causes of composition changes in Rb vapor cells depletion of Rb vapor, production of contaminant gases, and diffusion of Rb into glass. Each section discusses some causes of the anticipated composition change then describes the equipment constructed for the study and the procedure used to conduct the experiments. The pertinent results are presented and the conclusions are discussed. These studies have demonstrated that the concentration of Rb vapor in sealed Pyrex cells decreases rapidly within several hours after introduction of the Rb and then gradually levels off to a slower long-term depletion rate. Consideration is given to the problem of determining the total rate of the rubidium depletion process vapor plus adsorbed rubidium from the observed vapor depletion rates. Author
