Abstract:
An evaluation of the fusion casting process for structural ceramic materials was conducted. The investigation into the improvement of structural soundness in castings of high alumina compositions included a study of furnace and mold design, melt conditions, chemical additions, vibrational casting, and heat extraction. Evaluation was made by microscopic observations, mechanical damping capacity measurements, and strength testing. A torsional technique for observing microcreep was developed to give information on the thermo-mechanical behavior of the castings. Author
