A Military Potential Test of Noise Suppressors for the M16A1 Rifle was conducted by the US Army Infantry Board from 9 July to 26 July 1968, at Ft Benning, Ga. The purpose of this test was to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the test items with respect to such factors as accuracy position disclosing effects system functioning durability, reliability, and maintenance and to select a device suitable for a Vietnam field evaluation andor further development. Seven types of noise suppressors were tested. Specific phases of testing under intermediate climatic conditions included physical characteristics, safety, signature effects, known distance accuracy, short exposure targets, durability and reliability, portability and aerial delivery, maintenance, human factors engineering, and value analysis.
