An air-bearing slipper was designed with the aid of one-dimensional isentropic compressible-flow functions and tested in June 1967 on a monorail rocket sled that reached a speed of 2,200 ftsec. Pressure and acceleration data, although incomplete, showed that the slipper performance closely matched the predicted performance, that this type of slipper has a good load-carrying capacity over a wide range of operating speeds, and that it probably is very effective in reducing rail-induced sled vibration.
