Abstract:
This research program has been conducted with the basic aim of providing an automated capability for determining the response of hardened buried facilities subjected to a nuclear attack. The primary aim of the study has been to develop a large-scale finite element computer code for prediction of the free-field response of a general layered elastic site configuration accounting for both surface air overpressures and direct ground shock effects. The free-field code developed is termed SLAM code Stress Waves in Layered Arbitrary Media. This document describes the latest version of the program, Version 3 and the modifications of the program to permit investigation of problems with viscous damping. The modifications constitute a new version of the program called VISCO code.
