Abstract:
Instrumentation and results of two antenna breakdown experiments under supersonic flight conditions are presented. Nike-Cajun rockets carried the instrumentations to altitudes in excess of 300,000 feet at velocities up to 5000 feet per second. Aerodynamic, vehicle outgassing and sun illumination effects on the X-band and the VHF antenna voltage breakdown characteristics were observed. Author
