The primary objective of the program was to design and develop a lightweight troposcatter transmitter system including antenna. The transmitter was to make use of a newly developed Electrostatically Focused Klystron Tube. State-of-the-art technology common in the aerospace industry was to be utilized to reduce size and weight of the equipment. The result of the program was the development of a transmitter system weighing approximately 100 pounds. The RF power output was 1 KW CW over the 4.4-5.0 GHz troposcatter band. The weight includes a 6 foot diameter parabolic dish of novel design. This report describes the development program and outlines the technical tradeoffs that were necessary during the design phase.
