Abstract:

A soil survey at ten Air Force bases in South Vietnam and Thailand was made in 1967. Soil samples were collected for the determination of their physical, chemical, and mineralogical properties. Construction problems involving the soils were surveyed and the performances of lateritic soils, in particular, were studied. Laboratory tests on the soil samples revealed that soil-portland cement combinations were the most suitable method for stabilizing these soils. The percentage of cement necessary to stabilize the soils plus their various properties are presented. Author
