A design for a dual-purpose 10-Watt augmentor10 milliwatt crystal protector TWT was attempted. Efficiency problems with 10-watt mode caused program redirection to eliminate this design in favor of a 10-milliwatt S-band traveling wave amplifier. Manufacturing techniques and equipments to produce this tube were developed, established and tested in a pilot production run. The design of the production control program for, and manufacturing methods associated with the tube are discussed. Test data, design calculations, comparison between test results and design calculations, the history of specification changes with reasons for such changes, and recommendations for further improvement of the tube are presented. A production tube flow chart, a production program for various monthly production quantities and a unit tube cost estimate for the various production quantities are included. Assembly techniques, assembly equipment developed, and pilot line experiences associated with the laboratory prototype and pilot line manufacture of the tube type are reviewed. Author
