Abstract:
Density measurements on 1,3-butanediol, 2-methyl-2,4-pentanediol, and glycerol are presented with accuracies of 1 part in 2,000 over a pressure range from 1.0 to 2,800 kilograms per square centimeter and a temperature range from -60C to 30C. These data together with existing data on viscosity and dielectric relaxation times are then used to test the applicability of the latest free volume theories. Associated liquids were chosen for investigation because relatively large changes in viscosity and relaxation times result from small changes in temperature, pressure, and purity of the liquids.
