Abstract:
The results of an analytical and experimental program to develop acoustic fatigue design information on glass and boron fiber reinforced materials are presented. Three aluminum alloy honeycomb panels and fifty-eight honeycomb panels with two ply fiber reinforced facings were fabricated and subjected to acoustic tests under harmonic and random loading. Coupon fatigue tests on S-glass laminates were conducted. A large amount of experimental data is presented. Comparisons of experimental results with theoretical predictions are made, and design guide-lines are presented. It was demonstrated that high quality honeycomb panels with boron and S-glass fiber reinforced facings can be fabricated and will offer greater resistance to acoustic loading than aluminum honeycomb panels of comparable total weight and overall thickness.
