Abstract:

The information presented in this appendix covers bioenvironmental control measures designed to maintain below acceptable limits, the beryllium Be contamination levels in air and on hardware and facilities. A detailed search of existing literature on Be toxicity and control led to the formulation of an industrial hygiene program instituted for operational performance. All phases of the propellant manufacture, rocket motor assembly, static test firing, and postfiring tasks of the Upper Stage Technology Demonstration Program were monitored in accordance with a well-integrated industrial hygiene program.
