Abstract:

As in the case of tests carried out by Seeliger and Seeliger and Sulzbacher, the existence of cross reactions between listeria and streptococci were established also in foreign antigen hemagglutination FAHA. Even though cross reactions were slightly less frequent upon utilization of ultrasonic antigen, compared to formamide antigen, they are nevertheless sufficiently prevalent to render the value of this method questionable for practical diagnosis of listerial antibodies. Since these cross reactions proved to be reversible reciprocal, the same conclusions must be valid also for the diagnosis of streptococcal antibodies, as far as FAHA with formamide antigen is concerned, which, in view of its cross reactions with staphylococci and pneumococci, had little chance of being adopted for practical diagnosis of streptococcal infections.
