Abstract:

Ceramic materials are used in many military applications where their structural response under combined stresses is of prime importance. Yet, combined stress properties for these materials are essentially lacking for room temperature tests and appear to be completely lacking for elevated temperature environments. For the case of hot structures, the mechanical performance of some ceramics lead all other candidate materials either when used as individual components or as a matrix material. More reliable designs in the future make it essential to characterize the mechanical behavior of these materials under general combined stresses. Author
