The authors report on the cultural, biochemical, serological and immunological properties as well as on animal experimentation of 40 strains of a bacterial species tentatively designated as pasteurella X of which two are of human and 38 of animal origin. They were isolated and independently identified as Pasteurella pseudotuberculosis in Denmark, Germany, Holland, Sweden and Switzerland. From common morphological, cultural, biochemical and serological characteristics, the authors conclude that all these strains belong to a species different from Pasteurella pseudotuberculosis.
