An investigation was conducted to determine the effect of foreign matter additions on the chemoluminescence of luminol, using various complex ferruginous compounds as catalysts. Foreign additions show a cancelling effect on luminescence or an increase in maximal luminosity. It was possible to distinguish between a truly inhibiting effect, complex formation, effect of solvent and electrolytic effect, according to Broensteds theory.
