This report is one in a series of five the others being beryllium, molybdenum, silver, and tantalum, in which the influence on applications of changing technology is explored. Unlike the reports on the other four metals, the information on applications for platinum is fragmentary. Most platinum is used in catalytic operations manufacture of nitric and sulphuric acid, hydrogenation of a variety of compounds, and reforming of gasoline. Other important uses are in the electrical industry including spark plug electrodes, and as containers for molten glass. Author
