Abstract:
Two methods are presented for programming the IBM 704 high speed digital computer to predict the response-vs-frequency characteristics of an arbitrary linear system. The first method, using a Fortran program supplemented by a complex arithmetic package, has been particularly useful with ladder networks. The second method applies to any system describable by Kirchhoffs laws put into determinantal form. It uses existing program for determining the coefficients and roots of the characteristic equation for a given matrix. It has the advantage of easier programming for complex systems and of explicitly locating their zeroes and poles. Both procedures yield phase and attenuation information suitable for machine plotting on either the complex plane or response-vs-frequency planes. Author
