Abstract:
Cycle tests of various metal additives in ZnO are still underway. It is apparent that additives of Pb are advantageous to cycle life, but certain quantities of Fe are detrimental to cycle life. These quantities are to be determined at the conclusion of this test. Cells containing electrodeposited zinc electrodes show the same failure modes as the standard negative electrode. Additional studies will be done with this electrode. Stoichiometric studies show a modest increase in cell cycle life at higher zinc-to-silver ratios at room temperature. The increased volume area does not warrant a cell design change. The additions of ZnSO4, FC95 and LSA do not show cycle life improvements. Work on the development of a method for zinc plate surface area measurements has been completed. The calculation of the number of coulombs required fr passivation of the electrode surface in 1 KOH at OC may give a direct measure of the surface area. Author
