Abstract:
This report presents a detailed coverage of the current state-of-the-art on the termination of flat multiconductor wiring, which includes flat parallel conductor cable and flexible printed circuitry. Extensive engineering development at Picatinny Arsenal, Fort Monmouth, NASA and many industry organizations over the last ten years has resulted in many different termination procedures and connectors. The characteristics, uses, capabilities, and limitations of the procedures and connectors that have proven to be reliable and suited for use with Army Weapon Systems and components are summarized herein. In addition, a flat conductor crimping process and a new environmental shielded, flat conductor cable connector developed under Supporting Research at Picatinny Arsenal are described in detail. The crimping process and the connector have been proven feasible for Army weapon application. Author
