Abstract:

Mass spectrometric studies of appropriate species produced in the HCl-BeO system under Knudsen conditions were carried out at temperatures up to 2518K, using rhenium cell components. Equilibrium constants were evaluated from parent-ion intensities derived from gaseous species involved in the reaction BeClg OHg BeOHg Clg. Third-law calculations based on these constants gave an average value of -21.3 plus or minus 6.5 kcalmole for the heat of formation of BeOHg. Torsion-effusion study of the solid-solid reaction between BeO and graphite which produced Beg and COg was not successful a steady-state torsion pressure was not obtainable. Author
