Abstract:
An investigation of the state-of-the-art in lightweight light sources and power sources and the general characteristics of atmospheric light transmission applicable to an improved all-weather surveying signal light. The report concludes that a more powerful light with a theoretical range increase of 50 is feasible but would require large, heavy, and expensive power supplies. The cost of the improved light system would be many times that of the present light and would most likely require more than one man to carry the complete system. The utility and overall efficiency of the present light source is considered to be very high by comparison. Author
