The objective of this investigation was to design, construct, and test a polyurethane, foam-in-place packaging container for a SUU-13A Chemical Weapons Dispenser. General requirements included the Dispenser be encapsulated by closed cell foam to provide shock, vibration and environmental protection and the container be opened easily in the field. A mathematical model was set up with limits as established by the contract specifications. From the model, the required dynamic parameters were calculated and in turn two containers designed and constructed. These containers consisted of wire reinforced plywood boxes mounted on skids. The Dispensers enveloped in plastic film were positioned inside the boxes and encapsulated in rigid urethane foam by a foam-in-place technique. The containers were then subjected to a specified sequence of rough handling tests. The results of these tests indicate the container design generally met or performed within tolerable limits of the prescribed specifications. Performance below design requirements is explained.
