The purpose of this investigation is to examine the rainfall distribution, diurnal variation of precipitation, mesoscale systems, and orographic effects associated with two monsoon disturbances over the Southeast Asia region. The storm sample consists of eighteen surface cyclones and twelve 500 mb cyclones which developed over, or in, the vicinity of Southeast Asia during the 1961, 1962, and 1963 summer monsoon seasons. Some fifty hourly rain gage stations within the Lower Mekong River Basin provided a sizeable amount of hourly precipitation data which was plotted and analyzed with respect to the storm center, with the assistance of a special grid.
