Abstract:

This is the final technical report on Modeling and Measurement Techniques for Large Spherical Arrays. The objective of the program was to develop a reliable economical method for the verification of the design concepts and analytical predictions of the radiation performance of large spherical arrays prior to full-sized antenna fabrication. The objective was to be accomplished through a program of analyses and experimentation which accomplished the following 1 Establishment, through test and evaluation, of the array element simulator. 2 Detailed design of a spherical model having an aperture of 100 lambda. 3 Establishment of a simple feed system for the spherical model array. 4 Verification of the modeling techniques through experimentation with the spherical model containing a small number of element simulators. A frequency scaled linear array of 145 elements simulators located uniformly along a 120 degree arc of a great circle on a spherical surface was constructed and evaluated.
