Abstract:
This report describes the measurement of velocity profiles within and directly above a rectangular cavity with air flow across its mouth, such that standing vortices are induced in the cavity. The constant temperature hot-wire anemometer was used to determine velocity profiles at 75 feet per second free stream velocity and cavity depth over length ratios of 0.75 and 1.0. Both three-dimensional and cavity geometry effects were exhibited for the vortices, and lack of periodicity in the velocities was consistently noted. Author
