The analysis of harmonic current generation in beam-plasma systems is approached by both an analytical and a numerical method. Numerical results to these analyses are pending. A method is also developed for treating two signals in a finite system. Construction of the beam-plasma device is underway. The vacuum system has been prepared to accommodate the device. A booster coil has been built to make the magnetic field more uniform over the interaction region. The theoretical analysis of the PIG-beam plasma interaction system has been continued in two ways 1 by establishing conditions which allow for the development of closed-form mode-amplitude expressions, i.e., by assuming zero d-c plasma velocity, the earlier analysis of this situation has been extended to include the possibility of a warm beam, 2 by developing the system equations in a form amenable to computer solution. The system is solved as an initial value problem by the method of finite differences. Actual computation using this technique is at present underway. Author
