Abstract:

Efforts concern the development of operating and performance criteria applicable to a procurement specification for an anticipatory type of d-c generator overvoltage sensing relay. The anticipatory overvoltage sensing relay constitutes an entirely new concept in overvoltage sensing for d-c systems. It is basically a two-coil polarized relay. The two coils are designated voltage sensing X coil, and bias Y coil. The voltage sensing coil senses overvoltage and the bias coil discriminates between normal system transients and overvoltage faults by desensitizing the operating coil during normal system transients.
