A traveling-wave limiter has been designed. A single-crystal YIG slab was placed in a dielectric-loaded waveguide, and the coupling between the waveguide mode and n1 surface magnetostatic mode was calculated. The length of the YIG slab needed for converting electromagnetic energy into magnetostatic energy over a fairly broad frequency range was calculated. Experiments are being conducted to test the possibility of using this device as the broadband, low-level microwave limiter. The performance of an expander using a ferrite sphere inside a helix, has been evaluated. The loss inside the helix structure has been identified. Author
