As a result of the first year of effort, it has been determined that, in principle, the combined design criteria for an ESR spectrometer to operate at 1 GHz and the environmental requirements of an experimental animal are compatible. Further, it has been found that radiation induced radicals may be detected within such an animal. It has not yet been found possible to obtain highly reliable spectra nor has it yet been possible to make quantitative studies. A newly designed instrument, which is partially completed, will allow such quantitative studies to be carried out. Author
