Abstract:

The XDEP-1 Code is designed to calculate the energy, within a prescribed interval, deposited in a composite material. That the program can be adapted to other similar problems is apparent from the generality of the formulation. The calculation includes spherical spreading and the spectral distortion of an assumed blackbody source as the radiation traverses as many as 10 layers of material with up to 20 elements in each layer. Any elements for which the absorption coefficient can be approximated to be proportional to the inverse cube of the energy can be used. Provision is made for including one K-edge absorption discontinuity for each element however, if the effects of more than one absorption edge must be calculated, this can be accomplished by introducing two or more fictitious elements whose collective absorption properties match those desired.
