Abstract:

Heat transfer and flow friction characteristics of round hole and slotted perforated plate matrices were investigated. The data for parallel plate and notched plate matrices are reported and analyzed from the design point of view. Optimization procedures are outlined. The heat transfer performance of perforated parallel plate matrices is compared with a non-perforated parallel plate matrix and are shown to be very promising in terms of reducing the free area or volume of gas turbine regenerators. Sound and vibration phenomena were observed and recorded. To gain an understanding of the flow behavior over the perforations, a scaled-up flow visualization study was performed.
