This Facility has been investigating the feasibility of using epoxy in arresting-gear wire-rope terminals at RSTS No. 5 since March 1962, and at the Runway Arrested Landing Site since November 1962. The use of epoxy in wire-rope terminals is less time consuming, complex, and hazardous, and requires fewer tools and appliances than zinc. Tests were very successful and clearly demonstrated that an expoxy resin could replace zinc in cable terminals. On 31 March 1967, however, three epoxy-poured terminals failed during one arrestment.
